THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

June 26/27, 2010

FOOD FOR THE WEEK

Reading I                             1 Kings 19.16b, 19-21

Responsorial Psalm:             You are my chosen portion, O Lord.

Reading II                            Galatians 5.1, 13-18

Gospel:                                Luke 9.51-62

·         James and John are restless, asking, “What is the use of having power if you do not use it on those who reject you?” The gentle tolerance of Jesus demands greater strength than the spirit of revenge and furious retaliation.

·         When Abraham Lincoln was criticized for being too courteous to his enemies, he replied: “Do I not destroy my enemies when I make them my friends?”

SUMMER INSTITUTES

Saint Paul University has two Summer Institutes, one in Pastoral Liturgy (SIPL) and the other in Religious Education (SIRE). They are not formal degree programs but programs that try to assist people in parishes that are involved in their parish’s liturgies or in their parish’s faith formation activities. Some more formal formation in these areas of parish life can be so beneficial and is so much needed. The Summer Institutes run from July 5 to 16. Info: 613 236-1393.
