FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT

December 19/20, 2009

FOOD FOR THE WEEK

Reading I                             Micah 5.2-5a

Responsorial Psalm:           Restore us, O God; let your face shine, that we may be saved.

Reading II                            Hebrews 10.5-10

Gospel:                                Luke 1.39-45

·         Micah spoke out passionately on behalf of the poor against their exploitation by the rich and corrupt. Alone among the prophets, he names Bethlehem as the place the Messiah will be born; he will come from among the poorest, to represent their cause.

·         Let me sit and think about the poverty, the vulnerability of the Christ-child, and what it means for my life, today.

NEW ST-ALOYSIUS PARISH WARDENS
Following our annual general meeting, two new wardens were acclaimed. Thank you and congratulations to Pauline Leduc and John O'Farrell. A special thank you to our outgoing wardens, Phyllis Séguin and Myriam Lebrun, as well as our chairperson, Denis Casey, for their dedication and service to the parish. Also, thanks to all who attended - your presence and participation were appreciated.
May we take this opportunity to wish everyone a peaceful Christmas season filled with God's love and may the new year bring health, happiness and a renewed faith to continue to serve God within our parish community.

BAPTISM

This afternoon  is the baptism of one of our youngest parishioners, Shawna. She is the daughter of Genevieve Lacroix and Christian Deslaurier.  May God keep her safe in the palm of his hand.

A special SHOUT-OUT to teenagers

Do you consider yourself an outgoing person? Do you consider yourself a good public speaker? Do you like to read? Have you received the sacrament of Confirmation? Are you open to standing in front of the congregation and proclaiming the Word of God? Okay so maybe you considered this at one time but never knew quite how to go about it or who to ask….. well that’s why I’m here! Now’s the time to think about it. Why you ask? Well, the first Sunday of every month we celebrate a Family Mass. So, it’s a great opportunity for you to be involved. So go ahead, give it some thought and if the Spirit moves you and you want to give it a go, give us a shout back. Okay maybe not an actual shout, but you understand what I mean. Give Carol a call at the parish (819-663-5244) and let her know that you are interested in becoming a reader for the Family Mass and we will get in touch with you. Deal? Take care!

WANTED: Two-person team for Children’s Liturgy

Okay so Noah knew it was best two-by-two, so we figured there is strength in numbers. So why specifically are we looking for two people? Well, as you may have noticed, we have started the Children’s Liturgy again. Louise and Donna have graciously committed to every two weeks to spend some time with the children during mass to help them in their journey in understanding the readings. The other two-person team will journey with the children on the alternate weeks. Before you say – “wow I couldn’t do that, read on”.

There is course material available that outlines everything for the team (easily understood and easy to follow) and as a bonus, Louise as agreed to work with this team to make sure they are ready and comfortable to take on this commitment. Okay, so now you are thinking “well, maybe it’s not so bad, they have stuff to work with after all….. : read on.  If you feel a bit of a pull, we ask one thing and one thing only  - please listen to that voice, take some time to pray and reflect on getting involved – maybe the time is not right for you right now, but maybe later, you never know. And if you are so moved, please call Carol at the office and let her know you are interested in leading a team or helping as part of a team with Children’s liturgy. Thank you for reading and considering… God bless.

FLOWERS FOR ALTAR AT CHRISTMAS – St. Al’s and St. Columban

We could do it in two ways:
1.         You could make a financial donation in the box designated for this at the main and side entrances.
2.         You could bring a poinsettia to the church yourself in memory of a deceased relative. If possible bring them December 20th (St. Al’s) and 24th (St. Columban).

ENVELOPES

If you are interested in having collections envelopes for either parish, please contact the office or one of your Wardens.  Envelopes are a convenient way to make your contribution to support your church and get an Income tax receipt at the same time.  Receipts are issued at the end of the year in time for your tax return.
