EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

August 1/2, 2009

FOOD FOR THE WEEK

Reading I                             Exodus 16.2-4, 12-15, 31++

Responsorial Psalm:             The Lord gave them bread from heaven.

Reading II                            Ephesians 4.17, 20-24

Gospel:                                John 6.24-35

·         “What sign are you going to give us then, so that we may see it and believe you?” The crowd wants to know what it will gain by believing in this new teacher. Does he give good value? How, for example, do his signs rate against the signs Moses gave?

·         Their faith is at the beginning stage; the focus is on their needs. Jesus wants to lead them further, gently.

·         Can I move on from this first stage, to a deeper faith, to a greater love?
