ASCENSION OF THE LORD

May 7/8, 2016

READINGS FOR THE WEEK

Reading I                             Acts 1.1-11

Responsorial Psalm:             God has gone up with a shout, the Lord with sound of a trumpet.

Reading II                            Ephesians 1.17-23

Gospel:                                Luke 24.46-53

·         I’m walking out to Bethany with Jesus and the disciples. He seems to be giving us final instructions. We are filled with love, but also with foreboding. He constantly comes back to the promise of help, of the Holy Spirit, of the comforter, of power from on high.

·         He raises his hand in a familiar blessing – and suddenly he is gone.  Astonishingly I feel, in my companions and myself, not desolation but joy.

SPECIAL COLLECTION- SYRIAN REFUGEES, SUNDAY MAY 15

La Voix de L'immigrant- The Immigrant's Voice has requested the aid and assistance of our parish to help Syrian refugees who are new to Canada. They have requested monetary donations, so we have happily agreed to help in whichever way we can.

A special collection will be held on Sunday May 15, with all proceeds going to La Voix de l'Immigrant- The Immigrant's Voice.  In order to make your contribution, you can use one of the blue envelopes at the back of your envelope boxes, or a plain envelope, being sure to indicate that your donation is for the Syrian refugees, also include your number or name on envelope for tax purposes.

If you wish to have more information on the organisation La Voix de l'immgrant- The Immigrant's Voice, you may consult their website at the following address: www.lviqc.ca

On behalf on La Voix de l'immgrant- The Immigrant's Voice, we thank you once again for your continued generosity.

The Archbishop’s Monthly Prayer Intentions:

May 2016

«So that the struggling families receive the necessary support so that their children can grow up in a healthy environment, and that the practice of prayer can be learned and spread throughout the families, especially for evangelization and peace.»

Social reflection:

Since the 1990’s in Quebec, there has been a re-evaluation of the family. Many government and municipalities have adopted birth and family policies, and developed leisure opportunities for young families. Many organizations come to the aid of vulnerable families; we need only think of Neighbourhood Houses, family assistance houses, and the clinics of the Dr. Julien Foundation for Social Pediatrics. Do we live a true family life? Are we solicited too much by exterior activities to pass some real quality time with our families?

Reflection

Sunday, May 8th, 2016: MOTHERS’ DAY, AND WEEK OF THE FAMILY In today’s first reading, the Apostles form a single family. I will take time to pray, and to visit members of my family, especially my mother. This week is the Quebec Week of the Family; are there special activities organized in my community?

Mother's Love

There are times when only a mother's love
         Can understand our tears,

         Can soothe our disappoints
And calm all of our fears.

There are times when only a mother's love
Can share the joy we feel
         When something we've dreamed about
         Quite suddenly is real.

There are times when only a mother's faith
Can help us on life's way
And inspire in us the confidence
We need from day to day.

          For a mother's heart and a mother's faith
          And a mother's steadfast love
          Were fashioned by the angels
          And sent from God above.
