SEASON OF ADVENT

Advent is a season of joyful expectation.  It has a twofold nature:  It prepares us for Christmas, When we recall Christ’s first coming among us; and it is also a time when we look forward to his second coming at the end of ages.

When the church celebrates the liturgy of Advent each year, she makes present the ancient expectancy of the Messiah, for by sharing in the long preparation for the Saviour’s first coming, the faithful renew their ardent desire for his second coming.

Reminder – The Jubilee Year of Mercy

The Jubilee Year of Mercy will be launched in our diocese on Saturday, December 12. At 7:00 p.m. that evening, during the celebration of Mass, Archbishop Durocher will bless the door that has been designated as the Holy Door for the year. Pope Francis has asked that such a door be identified in each cathedral of the world to serve as a symbol of mercy for the whole year, and that it be inaugurated on the third Sunday of Advent. All the faithful of the diocese are therefore invited to this celebration to launch this year of grace so desired by our Holy Father. It will certainly be for our Diocesan Church a time of renewal

OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY

Our deepest sympathy to the Bernier Family on the passing away of Mirella’s mother on Wednesday.  Her funeral will be held in Toronto.  May she rest in peace.

ST. COLUMBAN PARISHIONERS' MEETING TO ELECT TWO WARDENS

A meeting will be held immediately after mass on December 12th for the election of two wardens.  Nora Prud'homme will be stepping down after one year and Marty Burns' 3-year term will end on December 31, 2015. Any parishioner who may be interested in serving as a warden is kindly asked to provide his/her name to any one of the current wardens at his/her earliest opportunity. You can also nominate parishioners of your choice for these positions.

ANGEL TREE CAMPAIGN

You may have seen  a tree at the back of the church with pink and boy angels on it.  This tree represents the  children that are helped with our Christmas Baskets.   Each angel  is a child that we help, showing their  age on the back.  We include a gift for each of them in our food baskets. We would appreciate if you would take one or two angels home and buy a gift for them.  Please wrap the gift and have it returned to the parish by December 18th.  You may leave them at the back of the church or bring them to the office.  Please do not include your name on the gift and make sure the angel tab is attached on the outside. Thank you for your support.

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS FOOD DRIVE – ST. AL’S AND ST. COLUMBAN

The annual Christmas food drive will be starting.  Please feel free to donate canned food, pickles, pasta, rice, toothpaste, laundry detergent, etc. We will be collecting specifically for the Christmas food baskets up to December 18, but please continue to donate throughout the year.  Thank you for your cooperation in bringing a Merry Christmas to the less fortunate in our community.                                                                  The Charitable Fund

I would like to thank you all for your help with decorating, set up, and clean up at our Craft Sale.  Also for the donations of crafts and baked goods were greatly appreciated.  We do not want forget  to extend a special thanks to the sewing group and the musicians, Pierre Leonard, Mike McCann, Julie McCann and Mike Groulx.  Thank you again.                     Susan Arnold, Social Warden

Winner of the beautiful quilt made by The Sewing Group was Father Albanus, 2nd prize (a tablerunner): Lise St-Cyr and 3rd prize (shopping  bag): Bert Braiden.  Because of your support, we were able to raise $1,108.  I think it is time for the group to start another quilt for next year.

Also with your craft donations and what The Sewing Group had made over the year, we raised another $742.45.

Thank you for your support to our Group and mainly the parish.
