SEASON OF ADVENT

Advent is a season of joyful expectation.  It has a twofold nature:  It prepares us for Christmas, When we recall Christ’s first coming among us; and it is also a time when we look forward to his second coming at the end of ages.

When the church celebrates the liturgy of Advent each year, she makes present the ancient expectancy of the Messiah, for by sharing in the long preparation for the Saviour’s first coming, the faithful renew their ardent desire for his second coming.

ST. COLUMBAN PARISHIONERS' MEETING TO ELECT TWO WARDENS

A meeting will be held immediately after mass on December 12th for the election of two wardens.  Nora Prud'homme will be stepping down after one year and Marty Burns' 3-year term will end on December 31, 2015. Any parishioner who may be interested in serving as a warden is kindly asked to provide his/her name to any one of the current wardens at his/her earliest opportunity. You can also nominate parishioners of your choice for these positions.

THANK YOU TO MR. ROBERT RACICOT

Father Al, the parishioners and wardens of St. Columban would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Mr. Robert Racicot for having served our parish in the capacity of Chairperson of the Wardens' Committee for two years, ending this past summer.  His work and dedication were very much appreciated. Merci beaucoup M. Racicot.

ANGEL TREE CAMPAIGN

You may have seen  a tree at the back of the church with pink and boy angels on it.  This tree represents the  children that are helped with our Christmas Baskets.   Each angel  is a child that we help, showing their  age on the back.  We include a gift for each of them in our food baskets. We would appreciate if you would take one or two angels home and buy a gift for them.  Please wrap the gift and have it returned to the parish by December 18th.  You may leave them at the back of the church or bring them to the office.  Please do not include your name on the gift and make sure the angel tab is attached on the outside. Thank you for your support.

ANNUAL MEETING OF PARISHIONERS  of St. Aloysius will be held after Mass on Sunday, December 6th in the hall.  A lunch will be served.  This is a great opportunity to learn everything that has been done in the parish in the past year and to make suggestions on possibilities for the coming year. At election time, there will be two warden positions (Secretary and Hall Warden) to be filled.  If you want to nominate someone (with his or her approval) or offer your services, please contact Carol at the parish office or speak to Marie McCarthy or one of the wardens.

Message from Development and PeaceCLIMATE SOLUTIONS AND JUSTICE

On Sunday Nov 29 St. Joseph parish will be having a talk by Joe Gunn, Citizen's for Public Justice at the 11:30 am Mass. We are inviting our D&P members coming from Montreal and Quebec city to join us for the Mass, to gather as people of faith and as D&P members to walk down to City Hall. This will be for those coming earlier by car-pooling instead of the busses. (There will be about 10 busses from QC). There will be a fair, with kiosks and music, face-painting etc. at City Hall (outside) from 12-1pm. Development and Peace will be hosting a booth. There will be an ecumenical/inter-faith gathering outside City Hall, at the human rights memorial at around 12:30pm.

We hope to have the bells rung at 13h00 on Sunday November 29th.
