THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT December 13/14, 2014

FOOD FOR THE WEEK

Reading I                             Isaiah 61.1-2a, 10-11

Responsorial Psalm:             My soul shall exult in my God.

Reading II                            1 Thessalonians 5.16-24

Gospel:                                John 1.6-8, 19-28

·         We are in the atmosphere of something about to happen.  John the Baptist is still on the scene, pointing where to look, where to wait, how to expect the one who is to come.  We get so used to Christmas and the coming of Christ that we hardly have any sense of expectation.

·         Christmas is not meant to be quiet.  It’s meant to draw out many responses in us.  This could be a week of active expectancy – to do something to prepare for the Lord.

·         How will you prepare for Christmas? Can you do something for the poor each day? Thank somebody genuinely each day for their place in your life?  Say you are sorry to someone you hurt, or forgive someone who hurt you?

ST. COLUMBAN COLLECTION

« Christmas, Hope for humanity »

Let us pray that the birth of our Redemptor brings peace and hope to all people of good will.

Questions we need to ask ourselves:

How can I get ready for Christmas in a spirit of solidarity, brotherhood and sharing while resisting the temptations of an idolatrous consumerism?

OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY

Our deepest sympathy to the McCann Family on the passing away for Mike’s brother, Vincent.  His funeral was held on Thursday in Ottawa.

            May he rest in peace.

This is our "ACTION DAY".

The petition to sign is available at the back of the church. Small family farms feed half the world's population.  Farmers need access to local seeds that are adapted to their area to grow food.  We need to inform our elected officials of the necessity that small family farmers have the right to continue to use the seeds that they have preserved for generations.  We need to listen to the people who are feeding us now and will feed us in the future and ensure that their right to sow, conserve, sell and exchange seeds is respected.
