SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT

March 3/4, 2012

FOOD FOR THE WEEK

Reading I                             Genesis 22.1-2, 9-13, 15-18

Responsorial Psalm:             I will walk before the Lord, in the land of the living.

Reading II                            Romans 8.31b-35, 37++

Gospel:                                Mark 9.2-10

·                         The apostles saw into the real Jesus – hours on the mountains, which they would never forget.  When later they would see the disfigured face and the dying body on the cross, Peter and James and John would remember this day, and would remember it for the rest of their lives.  They saw Jesus as the Son of God, and saw a glimpse in him of our humanity at its best.

·                         The glory of Jesus is the glory of love – his love unto death and the love in him of Father and Spirit.

POPCAN TABS, CAMPBELL’S SOUP LABELS, ETC. COLLECTION

            Popcan tabs, Campbell’s Soup labels and used postage stamps are still being collected for the Girl Guides of Canada, in Ottawa.  They collect them for The Clifford Bowie School, a school for the handicapped who use the proceeds from the sale of these items to buy needed equipment that directly benefits students.

            The used postage stamps go to the Guide Dogs for the Blind in Ottawa.

            About once a month I give them to Donna Escander who then brings them into Ottawa for the Girl Guides.

            And a reminder that I also still collect used reading glasses.  These will be forwarded to Third World countries.

            And then there are the used ink cartridges. These are being collected for the Guide dogs for the Blind in Quebec.

            All these items may be left in the plastic container at the entrance of the church.

That’s all folks.  Waste not, want not.

                                                Thank you.

                                                Ann Dunlop
