THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

October 22/23, 2011

FOOD FOR THE WEEK

Reading I                             Exodus 22.21-27

Responsorial Psalm:             I love you, O Lord, my strength.

Reading II                            1 Thessalonians 1.5c-10

Gospel:                                Matthew 22.34-40

·         The gospel today centres the message of Jesus on love; on two loves united in each of us.  Love God, love the neighbour – this is the only commandment of Jesus.  Without this, all we say we do for him is really done for ourselves.

·         No detail of religious observance is above this law of love.  Jesus said this and live dit in his life.  He never allowed the laws of religion to overtake the need for love.

APPOINTMENT OF NEW BISHOP

As announced in last week’s bulletin, the Holy Father accepted Mgr ébacher’s resignation and named Mgr Paul-André Durocher as Archbishop of Gatineau. Mgr ébacher has now the title of Archbishop Emeritus. On the day of his nomination, Mgr Durocher met with Mgr ébacher and the employees of the Diocesan Centre. He also held a press conference which most of the Outaouais media attended. Our new Archbishop will be installed, or will officially take his office, on November 30th during a special mass that will be celebrated by the Apostolic Nuncio, His Excellency the Archbishop Pedro López Quintana. We will soon give more information on that event.

On October 15th, the College of Consultors, a consultative body which is constituted of members of the Presbyteral Council and which assists the Bishop when important decisions have to be made, appointed Mgr ébacher as Administrator to oversee current affairs during the transition period.

On October 25th, Mgr Durocher will meet the Diocese priests and pastoral agents.

To read Mgr ébacher’s thoughts on that important change, visit his blog at http://www.rogerebacher.blogspot.com/ and see the “Changer de capitaine” post.

MGR éBACHER’S THANKSGIVING MASS

Mgr ébacher will celebrate a Thanksgiving Mass to which we are all invited:

On Tuesday, November 1st at 6:30 PM at St. Joseph Cathedral

A reception will follow in the cathedral basement. That will give us the opportunity to extend our best wishes and thanks to him. It will also be possible to leave cards and gift in special boxes. A bursary for Mgr ébacher will be constituted with the donations.
