EIGHTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

February 26/27, 2011

Reading I                             Isaiah 49.14-15

Responsorial Psalm:        For God alone my soul waits in silence.

Reading II                            1 Corinthians 4.1-5

Gospel                                  Matthew 6.24-34

·         In this well-loved text, Jesus is not trying to make a moral point about whether or not we should spend time buying food and clothes.  He is appealing to the imagination to focus his followers on the kingdom of God, to encourage them (and us) to put God first.

·         How much time and conversation do I spend on food, drink, and clothes? How much time do I spend speaking personally with the Lord, thinking about God’s role in my life?

·         I bring my priorities before God in prayer, asking if I have them properly sorted out. What might I do to change things around?

BAZAAR – GARAGE SALE

On April 30th we will be having a Bazaar and Garage Sale at St. Aloysius.  We will need your help.  When you are doing your spring cleaning, please think of the church for any unwanted items (in working condition) for our sale.  Also if you make crafts and would like to donate them to the parish for a craft table.  We would greatly appreciate your help.  For more information, contact Susan Arnold at 819-663-3619.

50/50 DRAW

The next draw will be held on March 6th at our Meet and Greet.  Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5.  See Susan Arnold for your tickets.

FOOD CUPBOARD VERY LOW

We are in need for donations for our Food Cupboard as it is very low and we receive continuous calls for the need of food.  If you can help with non-perishable food it would be greatly appreciated.

We have a basket for this purpose at the main entrance to the church.  Thank you in advance.

SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE SUPPER – ASH WEDNESDAY

This year we will once again come together as community to share a Pancake supper to prepare ourselves for our Lenten journey. On Tuesday, March 8 you are all invited to the church basement for 6:00 pm. Following our meal, we will gather upstairs for mass at 7:30 pm to celebrate Ash Wednesday. Why on Tuesday you may ask... it is simple, Father will need to be in Buckingham on Wednesday (last year they agreed to make the switch to Tuesday).

We are also asking for your donations of food towards the meal (eg. pancake batter, sausages, milk) and your time. We will need to form groups to prepare the meal (well ahead of 6:00), to serve the meal and then to clean up afterwards. We need a minimum of 5 people, however more would be better.

If you are interested in donating food items, please contact Susan Arnold (819-663-3619), and specify what you will be dropping off at the church the Sunday prior (March 6).
If you are interested in being part of the teams, please contact Caroline Cook (819-663-2362) and specify where you can help out.

Thank you and remember "Take courage" - this is our focus for this liturgical season.

THANK YOU – MILITARY WHIST

Last Saturday was our Military Whist.  It was a success. $426 was raised.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who had helped and those who attended and especially the Friendship Club who provided the tables, cards, etc.  Thank you all for your support.

                                                                                    Susan Arnold, Social Warden
