SEVENTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

February 20, 2011

FOOD FOR THE WEEK

Reading I                             Leviticus 19.1-2, 17-18

Responsorial Psalm:        The Lord is merciful and gracious.

Reading II                            1 Corinthians 3.16-23

Gospel                                  Matthew 5.38-48

·         How do I respond to these teachings in the Sermon on the Mount? Dismiss them as idealistic, impractical, too radical? How do I face the challenge they offer?

·         Here is the lesson of the Cross in front of me.  When I see things in the transforming light of Jesus, lifted up on the Cross, some things are reversed, but all things are different.

BAZAAR – GARAGE SALE

On April 30th we will be having a Bazaar and Garage Sale at St. Aloysius.  We will need your help.  When you are doing your spring cleaning, please think of the church for any unwanted items (in working condition) for our sale.  Also if you make crafts and would like to donate them to the parish for a craft table.  We would greatly appreciate your help.  For more information, contact Susan Arnold at 819-663-3619.

50/50 DRAW

The next draw will be held on March 6th at our Meet and Greet.  Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5.  See Susan Arnold for your tickets.

FOOD CUPBOARD VERY LOW

We are in need for donations for our Food Cupboard as it is very low and we receive continuous calls for the need of food.  If you can help with non-perishable food it would be greatly appreciated.

We have a basket for this purpose at the main entrance to the church.  Thank you in advance.

HAPPY 20TH ANNIVERSARY – GATINEAU FRIENDSHIP CLUB

On February 21st, 1991 sixteen of St. Aloysius parishioners met in the parish hall and decided to form The Friendship Club.  The club membership comprises all denominational groups from throughout the region.  Its mission, generally speaking, is to promote good Mental and Physical Health by providing a place where the seniors of our community can meet and socialize on a regular basis.  There are still a half dozen founding members still active in the Club. They have decided to celebrate their 20th Anniversary on the 10th of February. The parish of St. Aloysius wishes them continuous success in their mission and health and friendship to all their members.

SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE SUPPER – ASH WEDNESDAY

This year we will once again come together as community to share a Pancake supper to prepare ourselves for our Lenten journey. On Tuesday, March 8 you are all invited to the church basement for 6:00 pm. Following our meal, we will gather upstairs for mass at 7:30 pm to celebrate Ash Wednesday. Why on Tuesday you may ask... it is simple, Father will need to be in Buckingham on Wednesday (last year they agreed to make the switch to Tuesday).

We are also asking for your donations of food towards the meal (eg. pancake batter, sausages, milk) and your time. We will need to form groups to prepare the meal (well ahead of 6:00), to serve the meal and then to clean up afterwards. We need a minimum of 5 people, however more would be better.

If you are interested in donating food items, please contact Susan Arnold (819-663-3619), and specify what you will be dropping off at the church the Sunday prior (March 6).
If you are interested in being part of the teams, please contact Caroline Cook (819-663-2362) and specify where you can help out.

Thank you and remember "Take courage" - this is our focus for this liturgical season.

BAPTISMS THIS SUNDAY

This Sunday is the baptism for two of our youngest parishioners, Nicholas son of Roberto Rodrigues and Tammy O’Reilly and of Kaylen son of Roger Thompson and Stefanie Wells.  May the Lord keep them and their families safe in the palm of his hands.
